All bloggers want to people to read their blog. As a blogger you are the Chief executive officer, the head of sales, the head of marketing, the publisher and the editor in chief.
Not only do you have to write the damn things, you also are encouraged to tag them and do lots of fancy things to attract Search engine spiders. This was fine in the days when blogging was a pure form with little desire for commercial gain.
But now, getting lots of traffic to your site by understanding the technology rather than providing good content is clogging the bloggosphere up with splogs and porn as people look to cash in on affiliate deals or drive people to sites with dodgy content.
I'm all for SEO, especially when it means people can quickly get access to good content, however there are a lot a Charlatans out there offering cash and traffic as long as you use their code in your blog.
A really good site to guide you through the SEO minefield is here in the SEO worst practive manual.
